2010 Goals

Holler back! I hope that sharing this list helps keep me accountable. They mainly relate to changing bad habits, and curiosity/trying/failing/learning (they go hand in hand).
1. Write a rap verse. I think I can write a dope one if I put my mind to it. It helps that I’m up on the latest slang (hella, mad, slushy, lil mama, shorty, baby, goon, tight, do work, the bomb, to the max, full-on, grimey, that’s wassup).
2. Film the following: 1.) a lip dub, 2.) a music video, and 3.) a remade tv intro.
3. Own less than 100 things. This guy Dave made up this challenge and I’m feelin it. I’m kind of OCD when it comes to organizing and I think it’ll be way easier to just not have as much stuff.
“The goal of the 100 Thing Challenge is toT break free from the confining habits of American-style consumerism. A lot people around the world feel “stuck in stuff.” They feel like their closets and garages are too full of things that don’t really make their lives much better.“
4. Go pescetarian for a month.
5. Go vegetarian for a month. I wanna see if this makes me feel/look any different. Last year I read Fast Food Nation, The China Study and The Kind Diet (Alicia Silverstone, what what?). The documentary Food, Inc., is wassup though. It totally changed the way I think about food.
6. Finish restoring Uncle George’s bike. I completed one! His Gitane from the 70′s was sitting in the basement for >20 years and I didn’t even know until a few months ago. Last year I replaced the tires (tubular) and saddle, and rode it like that for awhile. A few days ago I finally upgraded the brake levers and calipers. Now it has Shimanos and Campagnolos, respectively. I also replaced the brake cables/housing, re-taped the handlebars, and cleaned the whole thing up.

7. Remember names like a champion. For years (10+) I’ve said “I’m really bad with names”. I want to change this and I have some tricks up my sleeve to help.
8. Learn the words to my favorite songs. I should know them already, but I don’t. Just a fun way to help improve my memory. “I have the worst memory in the world” is another one of my famous lines.
9. Use Tagalog, Spanish or Portuguese whenever possible. Last year on the road, this French girl said:
“If I’m here in Brazil and speaking English, it’s laziness. There’s no benefit for me to speak English, when I could be improving my Portuguese all the time”.
I liked that. Hella true.
10. Triple my 2009 income. The underlying goal behind this is really ‘change bad habits’, like laziness.
11. Use my diaphragm more. This is a good one. I noticed that I’ve had to repeat myself to people for years.
12. Have so many lovely days that it boggles the mind. (I didn’t know what ‘charming’ really meant until recently.)

I’ll post my progress accordingly. What are your 2010 goals/resolutions? They say on average, people break them by January 15. Did you? I wanted time to think these through and prepare myself, so I’m starting to work on these today. February 1, baby. 2010, don’t doubt me bro!

Hey Jeff! I really like this list! How’s it going so far?
How to have a lovely day is my favorite!

Sup Ate! So far it’s going pretty good. I’ve mainly been working on 100 Things, Online Income, and Tagalog. I’m down to 138 things, staying disciplined with work, and 70% of the time I’m either speaking to my parents in Tagalog or asking them about it.
Yeah the How to have a lovely day IS good. Sometimes I don’t remember what’s on the list other than ‘perfume’ and ‘smile at strangers’. But one time this Costco customer service lady said, “Hey, thanks for smiling, I needed that!”
Also, I’ve listened to “Ain’t No Other Man” by Christina Aguilera, about 15x, trying to memorize it. Still not there yet. I picked it because Jourdan said he likes getting ready to it and I thought that was funny. It’s a good song too.
Woo!

That’s a lot of goals for one year. Personally I go for less, otherwise I can’t get many of them done. But one of mine is about to work out: I’m doing a (rather short, granted) 3 month RTW trip!
